The essence of sustainable development is a balance between ecological, social and economic interest. With this reasoning in mind I started my study of environmental economics and this is still the basis during my career. In this I focus on the energy transition in the built environment. A major challenge because it requires a change in one of our most fundamental anchoring points of our lives: our home. De transition in the built environment therefore characterizes as a social transition where everybody needs to be included when choices need to be made towards a sustainable built environment.
