PBL Academy Lecture by Fatih Birol (International Energy Agency)
During his PBL Academy Lecture on 15 November 2018, dr. Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency, will present the World Energy Outlook (WEO) 2018, describing the latest projections, technology trends and policy announcements on a global level. This year’s WEO includes a special focus on two critical areas, electricity and fuel producing economies.
The WEO also examines how innovation can improve the environmental performance of various sources of oil and natural gas, and extends the Sustainable Development Scenario of the IEA by also including the linkages between energy and water.
World Energy Outlook: a world in transformation
The world is in transformation and our energy future is electrifying, with low-carbon technologies on the rise and electricity demand set to grow at twice the pace of energy demand as a whole. What are the latest data, technology trends and policy announcements and what will they mean for the energy sector up to 2040? How can we achieve the multiple sustainable development goals of limiting global temperature rise, addressing air pollution, while also ensuring universal access to energy?
