Energy and emission scenarios for China in the 21st century - exploration of baseline development and mitigation options

Publication

Together with the Chinese Energy Research Institute, RIVM has developed a set of energy and emission scenarios for China between 1995 and 2100.

In the baselines emissions in China grow by a factor 3 to 4 until 2050. It was found that an orientation on environmental sustainability cannot only reduce other environmental pressures but also lower carbon emissions. A large potential exists to mitigate carbon emissions, in particular by energy efficiency improvement and measures in the electricity sector (all options combined reduce emissions by 50% compared to baseline). The scenario analysis is described in a report carried out under the umbrella of the China Council.
