The pseudo-countryside as compromose between spatial planning goals and consumers preferences for rural living

Publication

In the Netherlands the demand for housing in rural areas far outstrips supply, leading to tensions in the housing market. The creation of a pseudo-countryside, a residential environment with the characteristics of the countryside but not located in the countryside, might provide a compromise. But this is dependent on how people perceive rural housing and on their preferences for living in rural residential environments. Here these preferences are analysed, and the possibilities of their accommodation in pseudo-countryside residential environments assessed.
