Analysis of metals and calorific value in components from household waste, 1988-1992 (including the results from 1986 and 1987)

Publication

The National Institute of Public Health and Environmental Protection (RIVM) analyses over a long period the physical composition of household refuse in the Netherlands. Since 1986 a start was made with the analyses of (heavy)metals in components derived from household waste. This report presents figures of 4 samples taken in 1988, 1989, 1991 and 1992 and compares the results with those of two earlier analyzed samples.

The report gives a description of the applied sampling method, the sample preparation, the used techniques for the determination of the metal concentration, and includes the next results: The concentration (in mg/kg dry matter) of 18 metals in 12 individually analyzed components from household waste. The concentration of 18 metals in household refuse, expressed in mg/kg including moisture. The distribution of 18 metals in household refuse over the main components. The concentration of metals in products belonging to the leather/rubber component. The concentration of metals in a variety of products that are often found in household refuse and belong to the 'small chemical waste' component. The calorific value of 9 components from household waste. Dry matter percentage of 14 components from household waste.
