This report presents background material for the third meeting of the Ad-hoc IMAGE-2 Advisory Board. This Board reviews recent developments and applications and give advice on potential future directions of the IMAGE-related climate-change projects at RIVM. The aim of this report is to give an overview of the past achievements of the IMAGE-2 team and an outlook to future plans.

Objectives and history of the project are summarised. The institutional imbedding of the IMAGE-2 project and its relations to other projects are presented and discussed. The recommendations and suggestions of the second meeting of the advisory Board are summarised. It is concluded that most recommendations were implemented over the last years as part of the NRP-funded project 'The IMAGE-2 Model: Policy and Scientific Analysis'. Ongoing activities are then presented and the future research strategy is outlined.

Summaries are given of all the presentations during this meeting of the advisory board. These presentations and following discussions should assists the Board in preparing their advice. Appendices are provided with additional material covering the programme, an participant list, planned personnel resources of the project in 2000 and a short description of all related projects that are part of further IMAGE-2 development and/or contribute to its applications. The report concludes with questions and issues, which should be addressed by the Advisory Board.
