Summary - Manufacturing Industry Decarbonisation Data Exchange Network Project
Purpose
Build a structured knowledge base on Dutch industry that is recognised by stakeholders. Gather factual data on energy and material flows, greenhouse gas emissions, and decarbonisation options for Dutch industry.
Scope
Industry located in the Netherlands and part of the EU ETS.
Duration
2018–2021; the various industrial segments will be analysed in phases.
Intended result
Publicly available online data, containing information that is recognised by the stakeholders.
Level of detail
Data will be gathered on individual production sites, where necessary making use of averages and data ranges to avoid issues of confidentiality.
Added value to companies
- Compilation of structured information on potential, opportunities, and boundary conditions of decarbonisation options, using state-of-the art knowledge available in the literature and among stakeholders may benefit companies in determining their own decarbonisation strategy.
- Location-specific information to improve insight into the potential for synergy.
- Data structured in such a way that knowledge partners can evaluate the possibilities. This information may then be used for improving governance, as it facilitates policy-making that is based on up-to-date and verified information.
Contribution by companies
Companies are asked to verify and assess the data in order to ensure applicability and correctness. The time spent on data assessment and verification would be a worthwhile investment (a few hours or days, depending on the complexity of a company’s site and its processes). We prefer a face-to-face meeting to discuss the data and explain our method in person, and a final check on the results by e-mail.
Confidentiality
Confidential information that might be shared during the process will not be publicly disclosed. Such information can however be used to improve our understanding of the context, which could subsequently be anonymised by incorporating it in results averaged over three or more sites, or by using another appropriate method, all with the explicit consent of the company or companies involved.
