CO2 emissions from fuel combustion, 2012 Edition
To show the changes in energy-related CO2 emission in response to economic and policy developments, this annual reference publication by the International Energy Agency (IEA) describes the trends in global CO2 emissions from fuel combustion per country and sector from 1971 to 2010. In addition, Part III shows data for CO2 from non-energy-related sources and gas flaring and emissions of CH4, N2O, HFC, PFC and SF6, which have been provided by the PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency and the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission (JRC).
Part III: Greenhouse gas emissions
The information in Part III (with the exception of CO2 emissions from fuel combustion) has been provided by the PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency and the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission, using the Emission Database for Global Atmospheric Research (EDGAR) version 4.2 FT2010, developed jointly by JRC and PBL. The data in this book are designed to increase the understanding of the evolution of emissions of CO2 and other greenhouse gases from 1971 to 2010, for more than 140 countries and regions, per sector and per fuel.
To complement the IEA’s work regarding CO2 emissions from fuel combustion, this publication also includes EDGAR data on other CO2 sources and on the five other greenhouse gases addressed by the Kyoto Protocol: CH4, N2O and the fluorinated gases HFCs, PFCs and SF6. The complete data set provides global anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions to be used as a reference database for science and policy applications.
The emissions were calculated using international statistics and default methodologies and emission factors from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories. Thus, they may differ from national emission inventories officially submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat.
