Methods for calculating transport emissions in the Netherlands

This report describes the methodologies, emission factors and relevant activity data used for calculating the emission of environmental pollutants from mobile sources in the Netherlands. The emissions are calculated, annually, by the Task Force on Transportation of the Dutch Pollutant Release and Transfer Register (PRTR). The resulting emission data on greenhouse gases are reported, annually, in National Inventory Reports, and air polluting emissions are reported in Informative Inventory Reports. These reports also provide a brief description of the trends in emissions and the methodologies used for calculating emissions. These methodologies and underlying data are described in more detail in the present report.

The present report describes the methodologies used for calculating the emissions over the 1990–2012 time series, which are reported in the 2014 National Inventory Report and the 2014 Informative Inventory Report. Data were compiled by the PRTR Task Force on Transportation, the members of which include researchers of Statistics Netherlands, PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, the Netherlands Organisation of Applied Scientific Research TNO and the RWS Centre for Transport and Navigation (WVL) of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment.
